Well where do I start.......
Mum, our lovely Large Black - Gloucester Old Spot cross sow, has had some more lovely little piglets (see picture above). We
sold some to David Newman, our friend who owns the Barn Restaurant, who keeps them to fatten up and then supply his Chefs.
So if you're paying a visit soon, then chances are the pork came from some of our piglets. We also kept some for ourselves
for pork, sausages and bacon.
She had 11 in total which was a big increase on her first litter, and as always was a great mum and very accomodating
when we wanted to have a look...
Rodney, the mild mannered, but tempermental Gloucester Boar, did his bit....(good old Rodders)...... Our Smallholder
friend Shane had decided that he didn't need Rodney any more, so David and I decided to buy him, so we now have a new resident
at Wayside, although hopefully he will be away from time to time with other lady friends....... We've started a little red
book for him!
We've just had the pork back from the ones we kept and again it's been blooming marvelous. We sold some as usual but
had some for us as pork, but had one pig for bacon, which we did ourselves, sausages and mince........ Mmmmm very tasty
it is too.......

The veg plot is progressing very well. My veg guru Jack Waterfall has been a great source of inspiration and advice.
Hopefully he'll be impressed with my potato patch! Its the best I've ever done.....proper ridges too!

What's that in the background you might be asking????
Well yes after many years of saying, 'wouldn't it be great to have one' we've gone and got a polytunnel. Our great friends
and neighbours, Jackie and Roy, helped us to put it up, and it's now full of salads, seedlings and veg......its been great
to start all our plants off in it.....and somewhere dry to retreat to when the weather gets a bit iffy......

There's so much to tell I think I might have to do another update.....
I'll tell you about our new Chickens, from Cambridge Poultry, our new Norfolk Bronze Turkeys, our venture into producing
Pidley's finest roast Chicken and what our potato crop tatsed like, next time.
Hope you are all well.
Julian, Jackie

Oh yeah and Barney too!
